Police confirm woman’s fall from cruise ship 'wasn’t an accident'

This morning it was reported that the woman who tragically fell overboard while travelling at sea on the Pacific Dawn cruise liner has been identified as 47-year-old Natasha Schofield.
Schofield fell from one of the upper levels of the ship into the ocean on Thursday, April 12th and the search for her body was called off on Friday morning.
Initially, it was reported that Schofield had stepped outside because she was unwell and accidentally went overboard or that a large wave swept the mother of three away. Today, as news.com.au reports, police have confirmed that her death was not an accident.
Queensland Police Inspector Rob Graham has said:
“This wasn’t an accident.
“Let’s be open and honest about mental health.
“It’s a tragic end to what should’ve been a lifetime holiday experience for a loving family.
“Her husband was standing right next to her when she went over.”
Inspector Graham revealed that the incident was recorded on security cameras where police officials were able to see Schofield throw herself into the ocean.
“The missing person did make intentional actions and deliberately propelled herself overboard the ship,” Insp Graham said.
“What I saw was a couple of loving people on the top deck of a cruise ship,” he said.
“I saw them leaning on the rails and I saw the intentional actions of the missing person take two steps back and then propel herself over the railing.
“Her husband tried in vain to grab her when she went over ... grabbing onto her legs ... she was too far gone and subsequently, she fell.”
Schofield was travelling on the cruise with her family (husband and three children). The ship docked in Brisbane this morning and police immediately boarded the vessel to investigate.
In a statement shared by news media, Carnival Australia has extended their concordances to the family:
“We will be able to give police CCTV footage providing an unobstructed view of what happened and portraying an obviously devoted and loving couple,” Carnival said in a statement.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and hope that they will find comfort in their grief.”
It has also been stressed that counselling is being offered to affected passengers.
