Philippines government shuts down popular tourist destination

Has this affected your travel plans?
The travel industry has been thrown a curve ball if ever there was one after The Government of the Philippines announced its decision to shut down the island of Boracay for six months, starting on April 26th.
As has reported, the strain of the island’s incredible popularity has led to serious sewage problems that have long called for attention.

Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte was recently quoted calling the island a "cesspool", eventually leading to the call to shut the destination down to tourists, uprooting the travel plans (and destination weddings) of thousands of people in the process.
In a statement, The Department Of Foreign Affairs And Trade has advised travellers to contact their airline, hotel, travel agent or tour operator for details, as a long list of services will be disrupted as a result of the announcement.
